Jeremiah 4:1-2
1 “If you will return, O Israel,” says the Lord,
“Return to Me;
And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight,
Then you shall not be moved.
2 And you shall swear, ‘The Lord lives,’
In truth, in [a]judgment, and in righteousness;
The nations shall bless themselves in Him,
And in Him they shall glory.”
Quickword: A call to repentance
Today, the United States of America celebrates 246 years of her independence. This date does not include all of its citizens as those who were brought from the continent of Africa did not receive word of their freedom for another 89 years on 19 June 1865. The idea and dreams of America should be commended. Yet, the reality of the day is that as a country we are more divided as ever. This text in the 4th chapter where Jeremiah lays out the call for the Children of Israel to repent hold true for America today:
- America will be blessed if she turns to God
- America will be blessed if when she turns to God and remains faithful unto Him.
- God will be blessed if America will give God glory.
The sentiments of this post may seem over simplistic. The word of God tells us, If My people who are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turned from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and heal the land. As we acknowledge the significance of this day, let us also go to God in prayer, asking for forgiveness and the healing of the land.
