A Great Cloud Of Witnesses

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

While flying home recently from a work assignment, I took a picture of the clouds. My spirit was touched as I remembered family and friends who have joined this great cloud. My Mother and Father and Grandparents are part of this cloud. Pastors and mentors such as Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Terry Sr and Rev. Oliver Tolliver now rest beyond the clouds. In the last few years, friends who were more like brothers made the transition from labor to reward and now rest beyond the clouds. This Quickword reminds us we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. This reminds us that life is precious, and as a result we should:

• Lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us.

• Let us run with endurance the race that is before us.

• Let us look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

My Brothers and Sisters, I recognize that I have more earthly days behind me than I do ahead of me. I’ve made up my mind to run this race of faith to the best of my abilities. I pray that when we join this great cloud of witnesses that someone will look at the clouds and remember us. Be blessed in the Lord today and in the days to come.
