An Ontime God

John 11:20-22

20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. 21 Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”

Quickword: An On Time God!

When Jesus heard that his friend Lazarus was sick he stayed where he was. Then after the two days Jesus said to his disciples let us go to Judea, for Lazarus is sleep. Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead. Martha, one of Lazurus sisters, when she heard that Jesus was coming went and met him, but Lazarus other sister, Mary stayed at the house. When Martha came into contact with Jesus, she said, Lord if you would have been here my brother would not have died. But even know I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you. This Quickword teaches us that God is an on time God, yes He is!

  • God knows our situations and our circumstances.

  • The presence of Jesus can met our needs.

  • Our faith in God can turn death into life.

In the text, Martha makes two declarations that demonstrated her faith in God. She says Lord if you would have been here, my brother would not have died. This demonstrates her faith in the presence of God. Then she says paraphrasing, Lord, I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you. Martha was saying Lord, I know my brother is dead, but whatever you ask, God will give you. Bible scholars know the rest of the story. Jesus said show me where they have laid Lazarus. Many protested that Lazarus had been dead for 4 days now and that his body would have begun to decompose and stink. Jesus, called Lazarus by name and Lazarus came forward bound by grave clothes. Jesus said “ Loose Him and let him Go. My brothers and sisters, I just want you to know, if we have the faith in God, God can speak life even into our dead situations. God’s timing is not our time but God is an on time God, yes He is!
