Matthew 5: 4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.

This morning I received a phone call and before I answered the phone I knew what was coming. I knew that I would hear that a dear friend, a senior saint in whom I could confide, someone whom I’d gotten to know over the last decade had made his transition from this life to life eternal. The irony of this call is that it comes two years to the day that I received another call from the Mother of my best friend. That day I was not expecting to hear that my friend had transition and gone home to be with the Lord. The call today and two years ago are calls that lead me to mourning. Jesus Sermon on the Mount gives us hope that Blessed are those who mourn shall be comforted.
- There is a Blessing that we don’t have to carry the burden of grief alone.
- There is a Blessing in knowing that those who mourn will be comforted.
- There is a Blessing in mourning knowing that one day we will see these beloved brothers and many others again over in glory.
This morning I’m blessed, even while I mourn because the word of God and my personal relationship with Jesus Christ gives me hope and the assurance that death is not the end.
1st Thessalonians 4:13-14 offer us these words of comfort. “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who [c]sleep in Jesus.”
Blessed are they who mourn, for we will be comforted. I am a living witness that weeping may endure for a night, but Joy will come in the morning.
