Confident in Christ

1st John 5:14-15

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Quickword: Confident in Christ

There are a great number of persons that I know who are in the middle of some of the most difficult days of their lives. These individuals are dealing with the loss of a spouse, parent, dear friends and even children. Dealing with some life-threading illness that has stripped them of their ability to function on their own. Almost three years of being impacted by a global pandemic. The increase in rhetoric and policies at federal, state, and local governments have caused the divide in America to grow even wider across racial, political, financial and gender identity. The senseless, inhumane killing of another young African American man by those who have sworn to serve and protect. In spite of the daily turmoil that many of us are continually facing, My beloved Brothers and Sisters, we can still have confidence in a compassionate Christ. Briefly, these two verses in 1st John, chapter 5 remind us as believers in Christ that we can be confident in Jesus Christ because:

- If we ask anything according to His will He hears us.

- We know that He hears us whatever we ask.

- We know that what we petition Him for we have in His name if it is the Will of the Father.

The challenge that we face in our humanity is God does not always answer our petition in the manner we want Him to. As believers in Christ, when the healing doesn’t take place on this side we can still be confident through the Christ that the healing took place on the other side. We serve a compassionate Christ who hears our cries. Regardless of the adversities that we will face in this life we can still have confidence in Jesus Christ: The Hymn writer captured this sentiment when these words were written:

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid rock I stand,

all other ground is sinking sand,

all other ground is sinking sand.

Today, be confident, come hell or highwater, we can stand on the solid rock of Jesus Christ and He will see us through!
