Do What He Says!

John 2:1-5

1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me?My hour has not yet come.”5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.

Quickword: Do What He Says

There is a shout in this text! I hope you felt it when you read these verses. In case you missed it, Jesus is at a wedding and the host runs out of wine. Jesus mother knowing who He is (although not in his fullness) says to to Jesus they have no wine. Jesus says to his mother my time has not yet come but then his mother says to the Servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it!

- Like the wedding host, there will come a time when we will run out( time, patience, resources, etc)

- Like He was at the wedding feast, Jesus is present with us

- Like His mother said to the servants, whatever He says, do it.

This text makes me shout! It makes me shout because I understand the assignment that Mary echos not only to the servants in the text but what it means for you and I. No matter what we lack or find ourselves in need of, Whatever Jesus says to us, do it! Sometimes what He tells us to do is not going to make sense, some places he will direct us to are places we don’t want to go, some people whom He tells us to connect or disconnect from are not actions that we want to do. Yet here me clearly in the words of Mary, “Whatever He says to you, do it! Most of you know the rest of this story, Jesus instructs the servants to fill waterpots with water and then take it to the host of the wedding. When the water is drawn from the water pots it has been transformed from water into wine…not the cheap stuff but the best wine. Whatever Jesus is saying to you today, do It! I promise you that if we just do what He says to us, there is something better waiting for us. Whatever He is saying to us as servants of God, we will be blessed if we just do it!
