Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old;Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,

Nor his descendants begging bread.

Quickword: From Generation to Generation

Yesterday afternoon after attending a training conference in Atlanta, my wife and I had the great pleasure of driving down to my hometown of Macon and spending a few precious hours with our grandson. This morning as I reflect, I’m grateful for the sentiment expressed by the the Psalmist in this passage of scripture. I have memories from my childhood of my Great Grandmother, my maternal grandparents and my paternal grandmother. I have phenomenal memories of my parents. I’m grateful for my son and my grandchildren. I’ve been blessed to witness the life of six generations of my family.

I’m a witness to the words of the Psalmist when he pens “ I have been young, and now am old;Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,

Nor his descendants begging bread.” I thank God for six generations that I’ve witnessed but I’m also grateful for those ancestors whose unknown history I don’t know, whose shoulders I stand upon. I thank God for the stages of life that I’ve gone through and for the season of life I’m currently in. I can truly thank God, I have never seen the righteous does. Here me clearly, like many if not all of you, I e had my share of ups and downs. I’ve sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken of his seed begging bread.

Let’s pray: Eternal God I thank you for being a God who looks beyonds our faults and sees our every needs. God I’m thankful for your grace and mercy. God I thank you for never forsaken my family and other families from generation to generation. God I pray know that your Holy Spirit continues to dwell deeply within us and among us, that generations to come will confess with their mouths and believe in their hearts that you are the Son of God who laid down His life that we might be saved and live victorious lives from this generation going forward. Have your way today in worship services across this country. Bless as only you can bless, grant unto us a peace that surpasses all understanding in the name of Jesus. Amen.
