Go and Sin no more!

John 8:10-12

10 When Jesus had raised Himself up [i]and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers[j]of yours? Has no one condemned you?

”11 She said, “No one, Lord.”And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go[k]and sin no more.”12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Quickword: Go and Sun no more!

In John Chapter 8, the religious leaders of the day, the scribes and the Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman caught in adultery. They stated unto Jesus that by the Mosaic law, this woman should be put to death. As they pressed Jesus for an answer so that they could trap him, Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground. They continued to press Jesus about this woman, Jesus raised up and said to then, He who is without sin among you, cast the first stone. Jesus then stooped back down and continued to write on the ground. Then those who heard his words were convicted, drop there stones and left from the oldest to the youngest. Jesus and the woman were left alone and Jesus asked the woman, where are your accusors? Has one of them condemned you? She said no Lord, he said neither have I, go and sin no more.

- It‘s easy for the world to condemn persons because of their sin.

- When faced with our own sins, we should drop our stones and walk away.

- When the Lord sets us free from the penalties of our sins we should go and sun no more. At a minimum, we should not commit the same sins.

Everytime I read this text, the question I ask is what did Jesus write on the ground? This is my reading into the text or eisegesis….Perhaps, Jesus in his infinite wisdom wrote down the names and sins of ever person present. Perhaps he wrote the name of the man who committed the adulterous act with the woman and this man was prominent in the community. Perhaps, he wrote the names of all the men present who had committed adultery. Whatever he wrote they departed one by one. This is still a relevant lesson today, before we condemn someone caught in a sin, remember we are all sinners saved by the Grace and Mercy of God. What if we worked as hard to restore one another as we do to expose the failures of one another. In any case,I simply thank God for the saving grace through His son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Go and sin no
