Heed the Warnings!

Isaiah 10:1-4

1 "Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees,Who write misfortune, Which they have prescribedTo rob the needy of justice, And to take what is right from the poor of My people,That widows may be their prey, And that they may rob the fatherless. What will you do in the day of punishment, And in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory? Without Me they shall bow down among the prisoners,And they shall fall [a]among the slain.”

For all this His anger is not turned away,But His hand is stretched out still.

Quickword: Heed the warnings!

Recently as I was driving home, the diagnostic tools in my vehicle began to light up. The automated diagnosis was alerting me that there was an issue with my car that I needed to attend to. In a theocentric moment, I asked myself, would it be great in life if we received an automated warning. You know a warning that says, don't date him or her, don't take that job, be careful with that person. I know red light warnings would be going off all over the place. It done on me that whereas we may not have an automated warning system, we have the owners manual. For you who have been around as long as I remember a time when the diagnostic tools available in cars today were not present. You would hear a noise or something didn't feel right and you would go to the owners manual. Well, the owners manual is still available for those who seek to be in right relationship with God and others. The owners manual is the Bible, the word of God.

  • The word of God read or received through preaching and teaching still provides warnings.

  • The word of God provides guidance and directions

  • The word of God warns humanity of the consequences of not heeding righteous instructions.

This text in Isaiah gives us an example of the consequences that occur when we fail to heed the word of God. God is a just God but He is also a God that defends those who cannot defend themselves. Woe to those in power who fail to care for the least among us. Warnings are designed to give us an opportunity to fix something before it's too late. The anger of God is not fully turned away but His hand of mercy is extended. Heed the warnings!
