His name is I AM

Exodus 3:13-14

13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

Quickword: His name is I AM

It is the 2nd Tuesday in November. The day is important because it is the final day to vote in the midterm elections. If you have not voted, I pray that today you let your voice be heard at the polls. Today I was reminded of this text in Exodus chapter 3. This text was used by me some 29 years ago in my initial sermon "Sent By I Am" . Briefly the children of Israel have been in bondage in the land of Egypt. The children of God cry out for deliverance and God prepares Moses to go to Pharaoh to tell him to let my people go. Moses asked God saying when I go to the children of Israel and say to them who has sent me, when they asked what is your name, how shall I answer them? Again on this Election Day, I hear the cries of the people. I hear your cries of help for the injustices in the world. I hear you cries for help with voting rights and a women's right to chose. I hear your cries desiring adequate health care and affordable housing. I hear your cries this morning and I yet hear the echoes of God's response to Moses. As we elect political leaders today, let us not forget God. What is his name, is name is I Am.

In a blog that I recently read entitled passionately loving Jesus, the writer Bonnie from her site "offering biblical truths from my front porch" identifies 25 statements of I Am in her post
