It’s a Yes for me..

Updated: Dec 22, 2023

2 Corinthians 1:17-19

17 Was I fickle when I intended to do this? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath I say both “Yes, yes” and “No, no”?

18 But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”

19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silas and Timothy—was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always been “Yes.”

Quickword: It’s a Yes for me...

This past weekend i attended the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles game. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, I went to the steps located in the tunnel to stand as my knee began to bother me after sitting through the first three quarters. As the 4th quarter progressed and it was evident the Cowboys would win, some of the Eagles fans began to depart the stadium. You could tell who the Eagles fans were as most of the stadium either had on Eagles or Cowboys gear. The exchange between the Eagles and Cowboys fans became contentious ( I can’t really write what was said). As I stood in the tunnel as I didn’t have on Eagles or Cowboys gear, I was asked who I was for. I politely said, I’m just here for the game and don’t have a vested interest in. As I read this morning text and thought about my response to whom side I was on, it was appropriate for a football game, but in the game of life, it’s imperative that we choose whether we are going to follow and serve God or not. There is no room for ambivalence. In this text , the Apostle Paul reminds us that our message, our way of living, our decision on following Christ is either a yes or no. Paul details that his preaching, along with the preaching of Timothy and Silas of following Christ was not yes and no, but always yes. As we celebrate the coming of the Christ in this advent season, let us keep in mind the gift of Salvation that His (Jesus Christ) life gives us the victory. If we confess we our mouth, believe in our hearts and that Jesus is the Son of the living God, we are saved. The circumstances and situations in life force us to make decisions on a daily basis. I join Paul, Silas and Timothy, that in Jesus my response will always be yes!
