It’s Not Over

Luke 23: 39-42

39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, [j]“If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said [k]to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Quickword: It's Not Over

Fans of the National Football League have been treated to some great games today. Three in particular gives us an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ. You see, the Falcons, Commanders and Giants were behind to their opponents today, the Packers , Broncos and Giants respectively. The Good News for the winning fan bases is the games were not over until they were over, being behind at halftime is not the end of the story. In this text, we find Jesus hanging between two thieves who were guilty of their offenses. One of the criminals blasphemed himself by mockingly saying to Jesus, If you are the Christ save yourself and us. The other criminal rebuked the first one saying this man has done nothing wrong. The second criminal goes on to acknowledge Jesus as Lord and say to Him (Jesus) remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus responded and said to the second criminal, assuredly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise. My brothers and sisters life is not a game and the consequences of accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior are eternal. The good news for you and I is no matter where we are today, like the teams who were behind today in the NFL and came back and won and more specifically like the criminal on the cross, if we call in the name of the Lord, whatever we are up against is not over. We are blessed that we can call on the name of the Lord. He is a very present help in time of trouble.
