Leaping and Praising God!

Acts 3-1-10

1 Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to [a]ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. 4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” 5 So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Quickword: Leaping and Praising God!!!

At the 9th hour, Peter and John, disciples of Jesus Christ, went to the temple to pray. As they approached the temple a certain man who was lame since birth was asking asking for alms. Everyday, this man was carried to the gate called beautiful where he begged for money, food, and other resources that would sustain him. He was in this position not because he was lazy or unwilling to work but was lame from birth. When the disciples approached and locked eyes with the man, Peter responded, silver and gold I do know have, but what I have in the name of Jesus rise up and walk. Peter then took the man by the hand and immediately his feet and ankle bones gain strength.

- Speaking the word of God can bring about immediate healing in a person’s life.

- After the man was healed, he stood, walked and entered the temple with them. The man starting walking, leaping and praising God.

- When the people saw him and recognized it was the one who was lame, walking, leaping and praising God, they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to the man.

My brothers and sisters can you see yourself in the text? My wife recently taught me that when you can see yourself in the text, it is called an “Ignatian Imagination or spirituality“ when you engaged the text with all of our senses as defined by St. Ignatius. I have not been healed from being lame but when I think about what God has done for me, like the lame man, it makes me want to leap and praise God. Has God ever done anything in your life that makes you want to leap and praise Him. Has he ever healed your body? Has God ever put food on your table or paid your bills? Has God ever made a way out of no way? I think if we are honest, God has done something for all of us. Today, I just feel like leaping and praising God!!!
