On the Emmaus Road

Luke 24: 33-35

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.”35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Quickword: On the Emmaus Road!

After Jesus was raised from the dead, he appeared to two men walking on the Emmaus road. The two men were engaged about the events of the last three days. Jesus asked them what they were talking about. One of them responded not knowing it was Jesus by saying are you the only person who does not know. He relays the crucifixion of Jesus and the report of the women that He was risen. As they traveled further and knew that Jesus was going further they invited Jesus to stay with them. At the evening meal Jesus took bread, gave thanks and gave it to them. When they ate the bread their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus. At this point Jesus disappeared. They talked among themselves of how their hearts burn when Jesus explained the scriptures to them on the Emmaus Road. After Jesus disappeared, they made their way to the eleven(the disciples)and shared their story of being with Him.

- He opens our hearts and minds through the scriptures and we see Him.

- Jesus meets us right where we are and reveals himself unto us

- When we encounter Him (Jesus), we have the responsibility to share the good news that He is a risen Savior.

As we go about our day, be aware of the opportunities that present themselves for you and I to share the good news of our meeting Jesus. We are to be ambassadors who simply make the introduction to those who don’t know Christ and He will do the rest.
