1st John 4: 4-6
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
Quickword: Pay Attention!
In the book of 1st John Chaoter 4 and verse one, the writer of this text gives us guidance on testing spirits. The writer pens, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” This morning Quickword is just a word to encourage each of us as believers in Christ to pay attention.
- Don’t believe every spirit but test the spirit
- We discern spirits that are not from God because He who is in us is greater than who is in the world
- Those who know God hear us and those of the world do not.
Again, as a believer in Christ as you encounter spirits, PayAttention! Don‘t get caught up with worldly appearances but Pay attention to the words and actions of others. Pay attention to family, friends, employers/supervisors, coworkers, church members and other believers. Pray and ask the Lord for discernment, everyone that seems to be supportive of you, your ministry, your goals , etc.…are not. Test the spirit, pay attention! What is their response when you are blessed? What is their response when you face difficulty? What is their response when you make decisions that benefit you and your family. My brothers and sisters Pat Attention. Everyone on occasion makes a mistake, pay attention, consistent actions are not mistakes but demonstrates the spirit of a person. The Lord will pull back the curtain and reveal to you the spirit of persons, then you move accordingly. Pay Attention!
