Peace Over Rage

Psalm 37:37 Notice good people, observe the righteous; peaceful people have descendants (Good News Translation)

Quickword: Peace over Rage

Lately I've been reading a lot of James Baldwin, Yesterday, I came across this quote "To be black and conscious in America is to be in a constant state of rage." Also yesterday, while sitting at my desk I received a news alert on my phone, the alert was: New Florida standards teach students that some Black people benefited from slavery because it taught useful skills. Yeah you read that right. My first response can't be printed here... to be black and conscious in America is to be full of rage. Yet beloved it, I'm also a believer im Jesus Christ and a preacher of the Gospel. This past Sunday, I preached a sermon entitled- We Will Not Perish. I must admit after seeing this news alert my faith was tested. In the midst of it all scripture teaches us to notice good people, observe righteous, for peaceful people have descendants. I've decided this morning to choose peace over rage. I cannot control what's happening across the country to include the craziness in Florida, Texas, Georgia and other parts of the country. I know that peace will prevail because God is still sovereign. The fear of conservatives, the cautiousness of liberals, the indifference of others who know better will not cause me and hopefully you to live in righteous indignation. God has a vision for our lives. We will not be destroyed, we will not be defeated, we will not be deterred by forces who have prospered off of our ancestors blood, sweat and tears. Cast all of our cares upon the Lord for he cares for us. God will give us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
