Rekindle Spirit

1st Peter 1:14-16

14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Quickword: Rekindle Spirit

Recently I had a discussion with a relative new convert to Christ. In a nutshell, the person like most of us when we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior was full of excitement and enthusiasm. Speaking with them rekindle a fire within me. If I can have a moment of transparency, over the course of decades of ministry, the enthusiasm that I had when I first was introduced to Christ is sometimes diminished by the work. Don't get me wrong, I still love the Lord and take comfort in the fact that I know God loves me enough that He sent His only begotten Son to die for you and I. Yet, that initial enthusiasm wanes, the burden and weight of ministry gets heavy; the bereavement calls, the illness, the broken relationships, but every now and then, the Spirit of the Lord shows up. When the Spirit of the Lord shows up we are reminded:

- As obedient followers of Christ to be not confirmed to our former lusts

- God has called us to be Holy

- It is written, Be Holy because I am Holy!

I encourage you to find an activity or ministry that rekindles your Spirit. I am blessed almost weekly while leading New Members classes to hear the excitement and enthusiasm of persons new to the faith. I must confess it is their enthusiasm that turns the work of ministry into moments that rekindle my Spirit. We are called by God to be Holy, full of His Spirit: be Holy because He is Holy!
