The Beauty Of Unity

Psalms 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! Quickword: The Beauty of Unity

This past weekend, I attended a beautiful memorial service that celebrated the life of one of God’s precious saints. This service was held at the United Christian Parish in Virginia. United Christian Parish is a multi-denominational congregation. They embrace the histories and traditions of four Christian Protestant denominations:

  1. Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

  2. Presbyterian (USA)

  3. United Church of Christ

  4. United Methodist Church

As I worshipped and watched this congregation celebrate the well live life of one of its members, I was by blessed to watch the unity among this multi-denominational church. The clergy and layperson from each denomination work flawlessly together. The Quickword today simply highlights the beauty of fellowship when the People of God come together. This text gives us reasons to celebrate the beauty of unity!

- Behold: We should boldly proclaim the fellowship among members of the body of Christ

- We are meant to fellowship among each other beyond the boundaries of race, resources and regions we live.

- How good and pleasant it is to dwell (live) together in unity.

I believe the Lord provided me a glimpse of what i believe Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called the Beloved Community.

I‘m not naive that I don’t recognize that there are spiritual forces that work together to keep us apart, yet I’m still hopeful that the people of God have the power to make a positive impact on society. This impact is greatly enhanced when we as believers work together beyond the obstacles that keep us divided. Our political systems and media are designed to bring us information, whether true or false that keeps us separate from one another. Here in this Psalm, it is clear that we are intended to be in fellowship with one another. What a testimony and example we could be unified in carrying out the great commission of our Lord and Savior. How good and pleasant it is when we dwell together in unity!
