The Eyes of God are upon us…

Exodus 32:7-10

7 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. 8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ ” 9 And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a [b]stiff-necked people! 10 Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may [c]consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.”

Quickword: The Eyes of God are upon us…

Yesterday’s decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to overturn Roe vs. Wade has left Pro- Life advocates ecstatic while persons who are Pro-Choice are stunned and preparing to take action. As I briefly listened to talking heads on both sides of the issue, the question that came to me is what is God’s response? In the Quickword today after God delivered the children of Israel out of captivity in Egypt, the Israelites decided that God was taking too long to meet thier needs and built a golden calf to worship. This act caused the wrath of God to burn hot against them. We have built our own golden calf’s to worship to include the god of political power. As a nation we need to be very aware that the eyes of God are always upon us. God sees and knows not only the outward actions of humanity but He knows the heart of humanity. I don’t profess even remotely to know what God’s response is to this ruling by the Supreme Court or humanity’s reponse. My modest observations are simply:

- We have strayed away from God.

- We have become disconnected from one another on the basis of race, gender, political affiliation, economics, etc….

- We must turn or returned to God so that we can see each other not through the lenses of our differences but as sons and daughters of God.

I simply asked today that we paused and examine our actions and the impacts they are having in the world. The number of mass shootings, food insecurity, inflation and recession, the constant tension among political parties I believe are direct results of our actions or inactions. As we navigate our own lives, let us examine how we treat and interact with one another. let us strive to make a difference where we can! The eyes of God are upon us.
