Psalms 27:13-14
13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living;
14 Wait[e] on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!

As I write this post this morning, I must openly confess that I’m praying that some changes are on the way. These changes that I pray for are both collective and personal. I pray for our nation, I pray for political leaders regardless of party affiliations, I pray for judges whose decision impact the health of a country. On a personal level, I pray for my family and persons that I minister to include you who take time to read this daily devotion. I pray for those whom I share the burden of ministry with. There are times and I know I’m not alone that it seems as our efforts are in vain. That’s where we find the writer of this Psalms 27 in verse 13. The Psalmist says I would have lost heart (gave up)…but what keeps the psalmist and I would even suggest you and I from giving up is the faith that we will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. In other words, our hope does not solely rest on an eschatological end time faith that everything will be better on the other side. The faith that the psalmist is talking about is the faith in God that allows us to hold on with the belief that it’s going to get better in the here and now. The Psalmist encourages us in verse 14….
- First, Wait on the Lord
- Second, Be of good courage
- Third, The belief that Lord will strengthen our heart
- Lastly, Again to Wait on the Lord
My brothers and sisters, to“be of good courage” is to possess an inner quality that enables a person to confront danger and difficulty without fear and with calmness, boldness, confidence, strength, and trust instead.
Today I just want to encourage you to remain strong in your faith. I believe we will see the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the Living!
Dear God in Heaven, I pray for the persons reading this post. God you know the realities of life that all of us are facing. God, I asked that as we wait on you, that your word will give us good courage and strengthen our hearts. I believe with all of my heart that we will see the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the living, so I thank you even now and give you all the glory, honor and praise that you name so richly deserves, this is thy servants prayer in the name of Jesus! Amen.
