Revelation 21:3-4
3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God iswith men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Quickword: The God of Comfort
My Brothers and Sisters, this morning there are a great number of us dealing with the loss of loved ones. Death is a guest that shows up in our lives too often unexpectedly and uninvited. The hymn writer wrote it this way:
Time is filled with swift transition,
Naught of earth unmoved can stand,
Build your hopes on things eternal,
Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
Let us take comfort even as we grieve knowing that God is a God of comfort.
- God still dwells among his people especially in the time of loss.
- God himself is with us in the midst of our loss.
- God will wipe away every tear from our eyes.
I wish I could pray your sorrow and grief away, the loss of a love one is part of life’s journey. I encourage you to take comfort in God who knows what each of us is dealing with Individually and collectively. The pain is real, the loss is real, the loneliness is real and it does not matter whether the loss was today, last month, last year or a decade ago. God knows and He is present to comfort us in our time of need. Those who know me closely will share with you that there have been times in my life when the burden was overwhelming, when I didn’t t have the words to express what I needed, I just called His name: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Whatever you need to do, get into His presence, He is a God of comfort.
