The Good Shepherd

John 10:7-10

7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

8 All who ever came[a]before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.

9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Quickword: The Good Shepherd

My brothers and sisters, we are living in some perilous times. As families In Uvalde Texas began to lay their children to rest, it was reported that since 24 May, there have been 19 other mass shootings in the United States. Mass shootings are defined as any shooting where 4 or more persons are killed or injured. In the midst of this we watch as those elected to make public policy debate whether these mass shootings are because of the easy access to high powered weapons in America or mental health issues where funding to treat mental health issues has been eliminated by millions of dollars. This text in John verse 10 really captures for me the essence of what is going on. The thief (Satan,Lucifer, the devil) comes to steal, kill and destroy. We are witnessing the impacts of the thief’s presence before our very eyes, yet this text also provides us some good news. The thief is present but the good shepherd is also present and is standing at the door which leads to salvation.

- The presence of the thief is real, this is spiritual warfare.

- The presence of the Good Shepherd is real! Jesus ( The Good Shepherd) is available, He is standing at the door welcoming any sheep (you and I) who are willing to come into the door through Him will be saved.

- The decision is up to you and I. Will we allow the thief to continue to steal, kill and destroy or will we come to the Good Shepherd who gives life and life more abundantly.

I would be dishonest if I told you that I’m not concerned about the events and the evil that seems to be constantly manifesting’s itself. I’m concerned but my faith is in the Good Shepherd! It is in the Good Shepherd that we can cast all of our cares and concerns upon because He cares for us. We are blessed, for the Good Shepherd is present even now to give us strength, guidance and direction for our journey.
