The Lord will fight this battle.

Updated: Dec 2, 2023

Nahum 1:2-3

2 God is jealous, and the Lord avenges;

The Lord avenges and is furious.

The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies; 3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked.

Quickword: Keep Still, The Lord will fight this Battle.

This morning I'm being led by the Spirit of the Lord to say to this Quickword audience to be still, God will fight this Battle. My use of the word battle is intentional; many of us are facing a singular battle that is all consuming to the point that it is about to destroy us. In our humanity we want to take on this battle head on but this morning, the Spirit of the Lord simply whispers Be Still. We can be still in the midst of the attacks of the enemy because of who we are and whose we are. In this text, we find the prophet Nahum after experiencing a vision speaking both to individuals and collectively to the people of God in the face of the attack of the adversary imploring them to be still. Be still because...,

God is jealous, and the Lord avenges;

The Lord avenges and is furious.

The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries

The Lord reserves wrath for His enemies

Again, many of us I believe are facing a specific battle. It perhaps is a physical battle for your health, your battle may be with an addiction, you may be battling trying to save your marriage, relationship or friendship. Beloved it, whatever battle you find yourself facing today; I stand in the footsteps of Nahum and I encourage you to be still, knowing that the Lord will fight this battle. The text lastly reminds us that the Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. There are days when it seems as if the enemy will prevail but I'm confident that the Lord will fight and win our battles; just Be Still.
