The Peace of God

Psalms 4: 6-8

6 There are many who say,

“Who will show us any good?”

Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

7 You have put gladness in my heart,

More than in the season that their grain and wine increased.

8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;

For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Quickword: The Peace of God

The Psalmist declares in the early verses of Psalms 4 that God hears and answers our prayers when we are in distress. Here in the later verses of the text, the Psalmists lays out to us the benefits of being in relationship with God. One of these benefits is peace. The everyday challenges of life often times causes our peace to be disturbed. Yet here the Psalmist reminds us of the blessings of the peace of God.

- The Peace of God will put gladness in our hearts

- The Peace of God provides rest for our minds, body and soul.

- The Peace of God allows us to dwell peacefully in the safety of God’s arms.

At this point in my life, peace is a priority! I have now lived long enough to know that the ups and downs of life will often times come and disrupt our peace. These disruptions often come in the form of people, sickness, the loss of a love one, strained relationships, financial burdens, etc. Today, I simply encourage you if you find your peace being disturbed, take whatever concern that’s disrupting your peace to the Lord in prayer. I am a living witness, the God whom we serve us able to give us peace that surpasses all understanding.
