John 1:14-15
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me [f]is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ” Quickword: The Word Became Flesh
John continues to introduce Jesus to the world. He proclaims that the Word by which all things were created becomes flesh. Upon becoming flesh, the word, the incarnate Jesus dwelled among the people. John states we beheld or saw his glory, the glory of the only son of God.
- John was a witness to the coming of the Messiah
- John proclaims He came after me, but is preferred before me.
- The Word became flesh, the Son of God
We would like to believe that had we been present we would have recognized Jesus . Yet I want to remind us that He did not come with fanfare, matter of fact as you know the story, his birth was controversial. He was born to a supposedly virgin who was engaged to a carpenter. From a human standpoint, he did not come from a royal family. So like those of that time I would suggest we would have missed Him as well. What makes me make this statement, it’s the fact that we have the whole story, yet we live as if the Savior has not come. We live as if His Spirit is not present among us. The word became flesh so as to become a living sacrifice for the sins of all humanity.
