The Word of God Stands Alone

Matthew 15:7-9

7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 These people draw near to Me with their mouth,

And honor Me with their lips,

But their heart is far from Me.

9 And in vain they worship Me,

Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”

Quickword: The Word of God Stands Alone

In the Gospel of Matthew based on the behavior of men at the time, the writer quotes the prophet Isaiah about hypocrisy. The men of that day were living hypocritical. The prophet Isaiah quoted in this text describes how God saw the people. Isaiah said the people draw near me with their mouth, they honor me with their lips, their hearts are far from me and in vain they worship me, teaching the commandments of men. In today’s Quickword, the words of the prophet are still relevant and addresses the ills of today. It is hypocritical when the people of God stand by silently while children, people of color and people because of their sexual orientation are targeted with violence and killed. It’s hypocritical to stay silent. I don’t stand in judgement of anyone today for I know I am a sinner who has been saved by the Grace and Mercy of God. The blood of Jesus has set us free! My beloved sisters and brothers, with freedom comes responsibility.

- We who are free must speak truth to power

- We who are free must not allow our voices to be silent

- We who are free must be willing to stand on the Word of God alone

We, especially those of us who confess to know Christ have let the rights granted in this country by the U.S. Constitution to replace the Word of God. The rights to bear arms has replaced the commandment of God that thy shall not kill. The Constitution is not supplemental reading that accompanies the Word of God. The Word of God stands alone. The Constitution has been amended twenty-seven times. The Word of God stands alone. The words of the prophet speak clearly today, we must decide who we will follow, either we stand on the Word of God or we stand with the words of humanity. If we choose the later, scripture teaches us: There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12)
