2nd Timothy 3:1-5

1But know this, that in the last days [a]perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, [b]unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power.

Quickword: Understand the Zeitgeist

A decade ago, I was introduced to the term Zeitgeist. Zeitgeist is defined as the spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time. There is a spirit of division across this nation that we may never recover from. I don’t want to sound pessimistic but this spirit of division which I believe is a result of spiritual warfare may be present until the Lord Jesus Christ returns. Paul‘s letter to Timothy warns us of what the last days shall be. I am in no way claiming to be saying we are in the last days m, yet I am saying we need to pay attention to what’s going on…

- In the last days perilous times

shall come

- Men will become lovers of themselves which leads to an abundance of human frailties

- There will be a form of godliness that denies the power thereof.

My brothers and sister, in spite of everything that’s going on in the world, especially the division among political, racial, and economic lines in America; I’m determined to continue to trust in God. I think it’s important for us to be aware of what we are facing daily. The good news for believers is that we know what the end will be. We know that the victory was secured through the life , death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, 2000 plus years ago. I encourage you today to worship either in person or virtually, I guarantee you that even in these times where the spirit of the era is dominated by division, there is a Word from the Lord that will give you strength.
