Walk by Faith, Not By Sight

2nd Corinthians 5:6-8

6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Quickword: Walk By Faith, Not By Sight

I am tremendously blessed to serve on staff at a phenomenal church ( Antioch Baptist Church, SATX) under a leader who empowers the staff to do the work we have been called to do. As the Minister of Pastoral Care that often means making contact with members at their most vulnerable times. The times when a love one has made the transition from life to life eternal. I am blessed as I don’t have to carry this burden alone as this ministry is shared obviously by the Pastor, along with the Deacons and other staff ministers and members. There are times when it can become daunting. It during these times that today’s Quickword serves as a word of encouragement to me. My brothers and sisters, sometimes you have to encourage yourself. This text simply reminds us that we walk by faith and not by sight. The text is often taken out of context but here Paul shares words of hope with both those past believers at the Church at Corinth and those of us who have and are facing the loss of love ones today. We walk by faith and not by sight.

  • We can take God at His word

  • We don’t settle for what the natural eye relays to us but what we see through the eyes of faith.

  • We know that this time in earth is temporary but our true home is over in glory.

I know this is heavy today, but I’m led to believe many of us are grieving the loss of love ones recently and in days gone by. I pray that we can take comfort in knowing that God is a God of comfort, love, and peace. In our darkest hours we can know without a doubt that those who have gone on before us who accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior are absent from the body yet are present with the Lord. Weeping will endure for a night but Joy will come in the morning.
