What Does the Lord Require?

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love [d]mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

Quickword: What Does The Lord Require?

In the sixth chapter of the book of Micah, the prophet lays out God’s plea to the children of Israel to make her case against him. You see God had blessed Israel mightily to include redeeming her from the hands of her enemies. God directly says to the nation of Israel, whatever you have against me, make your case against me and in the verse of our text today God responds with His requirements. The plea that God made to Israel I believe is the plea that God is making to America today. If America is going to proclaim to be a Christian nation then she must live up to her proclamations. God has been good to America and He lays out His requirements to live up to what we have been called to;

- To Do Justly

- To Love Mercy

- To walk humbly with our God.

To do justly means to do what’s morally right and fair? To love mercy, mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm. Lastly God is saying to us individually and collectively He requires us to walk humbly with our God. Simply stated we are required no matter our station in life to show that we do not think of ourselves to be important. These requirements are straightforward, if we continue not to meet these requirements we are headed towards self destruction. What makes our failure to meet these requirements more egregious is that we have the ultimate example in Jesus Christ. Jesus gives us a perfect example of justice, mercy and humility. In His life, he thought himself of no importance but to do the Will of the Father. He gave of himself, even unto death so that you and I might have life and life more abundantly. I believe we are being called to make a difference right where we are. We are not on that job, at that school, we don’t live in that community or city by happenstance but are on a divine assignment to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly before our God. We maybe the only examples someone will ever witness, that’s what God requires of you and me! Start today, make a difference!
