12 Then Jesus went into the temple [a]of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”

When I was a young lieutenant in the Army, a senior Non Commissioned Officer taught me something that I've carried over into civilian life. The lesson I learned is that every time you lower a standard, you have just set a new standard. I've learned over the years this lesson applies across the spectrum of life. In a relationship, when you are disrespected and the disrespect is not checked, a new lower standard has been set. When you allow someone to call you out of your name and it's not checked, you just set a new and lower standard. There use to be a time where community and civil standards were established, but everyday from national politicians, celebrities, corporations, and everyday incidents; when the standard is lowered it impacts all of us. The question I pose to believers is when is enough, enough? What is your breaking point. Here in the text, Jesus enters into the temple and the temple of God had been turned into a market place. Jesus, I believe had enough and took action. What's your breaking point? Is it the mistreatment of people who are less fortunate? Is it the abuse of political leaders? Is it the mistreatment of people of color, or women or children or immigrants or people who identify as LGBTQ+? What is your breaking point?
We cannot let lower standards prevail.
Just as standards are lowered, standards can also be raised.
Standards are set and renewed whenwe believe in justice, righteousness, and Love for all people.
Here me clearly, I'm not advocating for violence but I am calling those us who believe in a righteous God and those who believe all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, it's up to us to take action. Pray, vote, volunteer, feed the hungry , advocate for the least among us. Enough is Enough!
