When Good People Do Nothing

Proverbs 24:10-12

10 If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.

11 Deliver those who are drawn toward death, And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. 12 If you say, “Surely we did not know this,” Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?

Quickword: When Good People Do Nothing

Like many if not most of you, I find myself some days in disbelief at the state of the Country especially when it comes to politics and power at the National, State and Local government. Yet today, I want to look beyond those who have power from government positions and ask a question, what happens when good people do nothing. What happens when good people look the other way? What happens when good people for whatever reason will not address obvious misconduct? What happens when good people just feel like it not their place to get involved? The results are innocent children are gunned down in schools. Others are killed while trying to grocery shop or attend a worship service. What happens when good people do nothing, the gains made in racial equality, economic disparities and a seat at the table are diminished or eliminated. The writer of Proverbs details to us the consequences of our apathy.

- The strength that we have becomes small

- God, the keeper of our hearts and our souls will consider our inaction.

- God will render to each person according his or her deeds.

Beloved it, the question is can we afford for good people to do nothing. When good people go silent, it gives opportunity for evil to gain momentum. When good people go silent, the lives of people regardless of race, gender, ethnicity and even political party affiliation are negatively impacted. The good news is that we have a Savior in Jesus Christ who has come to give us life and life more abundantly. There is a call for each of us to speak out and stand up when the least and most vulnerable among us are challenged. The question is as people who want to do good, are we willing to get into the game. The consequences of good people doing nothing is too costly.
