When We Work Together

Acts 6: 1-7

1Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists,[a] because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. 2 Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. 3 Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; 4 but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, 6 whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them. 7 Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Quickword: When We Work Together

As the number of disciples of Jesus increased an issue arose that the Hellenlist widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. The 12 twelve disciples who had bees called to spread the good news realized that it was more important for them to continue in the teaching of the word and that others should be appointed to carry out other parts of the ministry. They were lead to seek out seven men of good report and full of the Holy Spirit to perf these duties.

- The preaching and teaching of Gods word is of the utmost importance.

- The work of ministry is a collective effort, everyone has a key role to play.

- The work of the ministry continued and many other disciples were added and the priest were obedient to the faith.

When the people of God work collaboratively, the needs of the people are met. The word is preached and taught and the disciples have time to study and prepare. Other members provide ministry to meet the needs of the people in a fair manner. The church has always and continues to grow when we work together for the sole purpose of building the Kingdom of God.
