Who Are We?

Romans1:28-32

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, [l]sexual immorality, wickedness, [m]covetousness, [n]maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they arewhisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 [o]undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, [p]unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Quickword: Who Are We?

I offer this text from the perspective of someone who knows I am a sinner saved by the Grace of God. This is not a text that will make you shout but it is a text that deals with our current reality. We live in a world where persons who confess to know Christ do not retain His knowledge. When I started in ministry sime 28 plus years ago; a mentor of mind made a statement that stil resonates with me. The statement being if we are going to call ourselves Christians, we need to either change our name or change our behavior. Individually and collectively humanity seems to pull further away from a Holy God. There are consequences to our actions. We read the consequences in this text that can possibly be upon us now.

  • God gave some of humanity over to a debased (reprobate) mind

  • Our actions toward each other, especially those who are the least among us show our true identity

  • Their are dire consequences when we are not in fellowship with God and fail to retain the knowledge of Him.

This is a serious text, my brothers and sisters, God turned portions of humanity over to a debased mind before. Ask yourself if unrighteousness does not bother you. Ask yourself if you are comfortable in your sins and the sins of others. If we are at that point, our minds have become debased. If we are not honest with anyone else, at least be honest with ourselves. Im grateful for a God who lived us so much, He sent His only Son to redeem us.

We need to ask ourselves, who are we?
