Yes be Yes, No be No

Matthew 5:37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

Quickword: Yes be Yes, No be No

We are eleven days from the last day of midterm elections. I hope that you exercise your right to vote. I listened yesterday to campaign messages from candidates in Texas where I reside, my home state of Georgia and several other states as I'm interested in what's going on in the nation. As I listened to politicians and pundits on both sides of the isle, I was reminded of this text in Matthew 5:37. Simply, let you yes be a yes and a no a no. I know public policy is more than a yes or no, but I listen to people talk who are saying absolutely nothing. I used James chapter 2 as a litmus test of candidates for whom I vote for. The text says beginning at vs 14 thru 18, 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

  • Priority must be to serve people

  • If individual gain is the goal, that person is not my candidate

  • Faith without works is dead

We live in a country where people who are less fortunate are treated differently. This difference is seen in the quality of education available, the availability of healthy and fresh food, affordable and quality housing and the means to make wages to meet the basic needs of life. I'm looking for those political leaders; leaders whose faith lead them to good works. I realize that no political party can do what God can do. Yes, I partipate in the process but too often promises are made, yes becomes No and no's become yes's for personal gain. I've already voted but most importantly, I'm going to stay on bended knee. Our help comes from the Lord, He is the same today, yesterday and forevermore.
