Yesterday I Cried…

John 14:1-3

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many[a]mansions; if it were not so,[b] I would have told you.I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Quickword: Yesterday I Cried…

Yesterday I cried as I took a few minutes in my office to watch the funeral services of the Late General Colin L. Powell. Like many others who served in the military, male and female, African American, Caucasian, etc…. many of us studied the leadership of General Powell. I cried as a significant human example of how to lead and live now rest with the Lord. The tears surprised me as I never had the pleasure of meeting General Powell, yet I felt a great loss. Today, there maybe tears swelling in your eyes as a result of the loss of a loved one, a family member or close friend. Perhaps like me, you grieved today over the loss of someone who impacted you greatly. Here in the Gospel of John, Jesus prepares His disciples for His pending death. I used these words as comfort for you and I.

- Let not you heart be trouble, our faith is in God the Father and God the Son

- Let not your heart be trouble for Jesus has gone before us to prepare a place

- Let not your heart be trouble because one day the Lord will return for us.

I cried yesterday, the tears were tears of sadness that became tears of joy. I’m reminded that we have another home over in glory. One day, we too must face death, yet we have the joy of knowing that we will join the great cloud of witnesses who have made it home to glory. Rest Well General Powell. We will see you on the high ground. Weeping endures for a night but Joy will come in the morning!
